At the Goodwill Career Pathways Institute, we have a training team dedicated to helping you gain skills for the digital age. You’ll learn how basic computer access applies to functioning in the world and getting a job. Plus, you’ll have fun researching some of your favorite hobbies online. Goodwill Career Pathway Classes
Introduction to Computer Applications and Keyboarding (1.5 Hours) – This workshop teaches you the differences between laptops and desktop computers, how to identify the parts of a computer, how to navigate around a computer desktop and identify other electronic communication devices. You will also learn basic keyboarding skills. (Level 2)
Introduction to Internet and Electronic Communications (2.5 Hours) – This workshop introduces you to the internet, how to conduct internet searches, and how to conduct yourself on social media. You will create email addresses and a social media profile. In addition, we will cover online navigational safety and how to make online purchases. (Level 2)
Introduction to MS Word (2 Hours) – This workshop shows you how to create documents in Microsoft Word. You will understand how to style documents, how to change page format, and how to save documents using the ribbon. You will learn how to type in MS Word as part of this workshop. (Level 3)
Introduction to MS Excel (2 Hours) – This workshop introduces you to Microsoft Excel. You will learn how to create spreadsheets, apply styles, and sort complex information. In addition, you will practice simple formulas as part of this workshop. (Level 3)
Introduction to MS PowerPoint (2.5 Hours) – This workshop introduces you to Microsoft PowerPoint and the intent of presentations in a professional environment. You will build a 6-slide presentation using styles, animations, and content. You will practice presenting the presentation as part of this workshop. (Level 3)
Introduction to Google Apps and Drive (1.5 Hours)– This workshop introduces you to the suite of document types available through Google Apps and Google Drive. You will create a cover letter in Google Doc after exploring the applications available through the drive, share documents, and convert documents to familiar file types. You will be able to effectively modify other created documents as part of this workshop. In addition, you will go on a Voyage using Google Earth. (Level 3)
Canva Design Studio (2 Hours) – This workshop is designed to teach an advanced learner with design skills to create flyers, brochures, and other marketing collateral using the website Canva as a template. This design studio will teach you how to stylize marketing materials to include the right amount of information to capture your audience while maintaining the integrity of the creation you have made. This is an advanced class, so learners who have not successfully completed the Levels 1-3 should not attempt this course. (Level 4)
