At the Goodwill Career Pathways Institute we have a training team dedicated to help learners gain skills to help them understand the digital age and how it applies to getting a job, functioning in the world through basic computer access, and having fun researching some of their favorite hobbies online. What classes do you offer as part of Digital Literacy?
Introduction to Computer Applications and Keyboarding (1.5 Hours)- This workshop teaches the learner how to identify the parts of a computer, how to navigate around the computer desktop, and identify other electronic communication devices. Learners are taught the differences between laptop and desktop computers. As part of this workshop, learners are taught basic keyboarding skills. (Level 2)
Introduction to Internet and Electronic Communications (2.5 Hours)- This workshop introduces the learner to the internet, how to conduct internet searches, and how to conduct themselves on social media. Learners will create email addresses and a social media profile. In addition, learners will cover how to make online purchases and online navigational safety. (Level 2)
Introduction to MS Word (2 Hours)- This workshop introduces the learner to how to create documents in Microsoft Word. Learners will understand how to style documents, how to change page format, and how to save documents using the ribbon. Learners will learn how to type in MS Word as part of this workshop. (Level 3)
Introduction to MS Excel (2 Hours)- This workshop introduces the learner to Microsoft Excel. The learner will create spreadsheets, apply styles, and sort complex information. In addition, the learner will practice simple formulas as part of this workshop. (Level 3)
Introduction to MS PowerPoint (2.5 Hours)- This workshop introduces the learner to Microsoft PowerPoint and the intent of presentations in the professional environment. The learner will build a 6-slide presentation using styles, animations, and content. The learner will practice presenting the presentation as part of this workshop. (Level 3)
Level Up Workshop Introduction to Google Apps and Drive (1.5 Hours)- This workshop introduces the learner to the suite of document types available through Google Apps and Google Drive. The learner will create documents using the applications available through the drive, share documents, and convert documents to familiar file types. Learners will be able to effectively modify other created documents as part of this workshop. (Level 3)
Canva Design Studio (2 Hours)- This workshop is designed to teach an advanced learner with design skills to create flyers, brochures, and other marketing collateral using the website Canva as a template. This design studio will teach learners how to stylize marketing materials to include the right amount of information to capture their audience while maintaining the integrity of the creation they have made. This is an advanced class, so learners who have not successfully completed the Levels 1-3 should not attempt this course. (Level 4)
