Have you ever donated or shopped at Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma and wondered how your donations and purchases are making a difference? When you donate to or buy from Goodwill, 88 cents of every dollar earned is used to directly fund programs that fulfill Goodwill’s mission of providing job training and placement services for individuals in the community who are facing challenges to employment. This is accomplished through the offering of different programs designed to make individuals more career ready. One of these programs is the Goodwill DRS Milestones Supported Employment program.
The program exists to serve adults who are living with a disability and are eager to transition into an inclusive work environment. This program is designed to help train individuals on the basic responsibilities and appropriate work habits that must be developed in order to be successful in community-integrated employment. Goodwill provides an intense level of support throughout the program, including development of an individualized service plan, job placement, training, coordination with referral sources, funders and caregivers, case management, counseling and ongoing follow-along services with focus on job placement and retention.
Participants in the Supported Services Program must work with Goodwill on assessment and career planning, vocational preparation, job placement, retention and stabilization. Through these five phases, adults who are living with disabilities will understand what skills are needed to gain employment and be on a path to successfully join the Oklahoma workforce.
