Each day, Goodwill Industries of Central Oklahoma helps people facing challenges to employment. The job training and career placement services offered by Goodwill would not be possible without donations from local Oklahomans.
This holiday season, Goodwill is proud to take part in the Giving Tuesday initiative. The goal of this global day of giving is to celebrate generosity worldwide and remind everyone to give back during the busy holiday season. Occurring this year on Tuesday, Nov. 27, Giving Tuesday is an annual celebration held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate on improving their local communities and give back in meaningful ways.
One of the great things about Goodwill is that there are so many ways to donate and give back to the community. By simply cleaning out the items collecting dust in your closet, garage and attic, you can help provide essential job training and placement services to individuals with disabilities and disadvantages. When you donate gently-used goods, such as household items, clothing, electronics and even cars, they are sold in a Goodwill Retail Store and generate revenue for the nonprofit. More than 88 cents of every dollar earned is used to create employment placement, job training programs and support services for people who face challenges to finding employment.
Goodwill has a number of programs including vocational training, supported employment, job connection centers, supported services for veteran families, high school equivalency test prep and work adjustment training. These programs prepare individuals who are unemployed or underemployed for careers in fields such as information technology, healthcare, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, construction, automotive service and many more high-demand industries.
Join the nationwide movement of Giving Tuesday by donating to Goodwill this holiday season.
