Career Development

Our Programs

Our Career Development Job Training program is designed to serve individuals with disabilities. Individuals apply for training services by completing an application and providing documentation of disability. The Developmental Disabilities Services Division, the Department of Rehabilitation Services, other community providers, and family members refer potential Service Recipients to us. Potential Service Recipients also come to Goodwill on a walk-in basis.

Employment and Retention

This program is provided for individuals with severe disabilities who require short-term job coach support in preparing for finding, obtaining, and maintaining competitive employment. An Employment Training Specialist works with the participant to develop a three-step job success plan. After effective job placement, the participant is tracked for 90 days to ensure success.

Supported Employment

This program provides ongoing support services for participants with significant disabilities. Supportive Employment is competitive employment in an integrated setting. Participants work toward competitive employment consistent with their abilities, interests, and informed choices.

Job Placement

The Job Placement program offers individuals with disabilities assistance in finding suitable employment. Each participant receives help preparing a resume and learning how to apply for a job. Participants are tracked for 90 days to ensure that the job is a good match.

Occupational Skills Training

This program offers paid training in all areas of janitorial work in which the individual is supervised to prepare him or her for placement in the community. Participants learn work skills that will prove invaluable, such as timekeeping, positive interaction with diverse cultures, and working under supervision. This program allows ample time for the participants to learn the techniques needed for a successful transition to the community.

Extended Vocational

The Sheltered Workshop provides on-the-job training for a variety of occupational skills. Participants learn specific skills in a work environment to prepare them for competitive employment. Participants work on contracts that match their abilities and interests and earn wages based on productivity. Enclave sites are also available.

Work Adjustment Program

The Work Adjustment Program provides job and life skills training for high school students age 16 and over who receive assistance from the Department of Rehabilitation Services. Classes teach students about career planning, setting goals, managing their time and money, and finding employment. Students also receive hands-on work experience in a workshop setting and in a retail store.
